Meditating in the mountains above Boulder, Colorado [Conveniently, I had already been using this photo of me from a trip to Boulder about two years prior to the move  — perhaps a subconscious communication to myself?]

1/10/13 Update:

Last September I quit my job and arrived by the light of the full moon in Boulder, Colorado on Halloween night.

So my “who am I?” is undergoing  existential construction at the moment, but I am still trying to find balance, a life that I love, and who knows, maybe even enlightenment.

The Original Spiel:

Hi! I’m Gina. I live in Chicago where I’m trying to find balance, a life that I love, and who knows, maybe even enlightenment.

While I have a time-sucking corporate job, what I really love to do is practice (and teach) yoga, explore energy healing, and do a little crafting.

Yoga has been part of my life since about 2003 or so. But in March 2009, its role accelerated when I was invited to deepen my study by enrolling in the Yoga Roots teacher training program, a 15-month, 500 hour advanced training course under the direction of Janice Cadwell. The yogic teachings led me though a difficult time in my life and changed me in ways I’m only just being to understand. By the grace of those in my yoga community, I was blessed to be given the opportunity to teach before I had even graduated at Namaskar Yoga, where I led their Sunrise Yoga class until August of 2010. Following that I was lucky enough to teach at EMW Yoga,  a unique studio space in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood with incredible energy. While I had never intended to teach, the experience was incredibly joyous and powerful and now sharing what I’ve learned and continue to discover on my path of yoga has taken on new importance.

In the summer of 2009 I had my very first Reiki treatment and was awed as I felt this energy coursing through me. It was unlike anything I had experienced before and I knew immediately this was something I wanted to be part of my life.  By the following summer I was attuned to Reiki Levels 1 and 2 by Tracey Ostrand and in April 2012 received my Master level attunement. As an active and founding member of the Midwest Reiki Community, which brings together Reiki practictioners across Chicagoland, I continue to explore the amazing power of this healing energy.

I love crafting, and while I mainly embark on new projects for gifts, they are vital creative outlets for me ever since I veered off from my graphic design career years ago. While I still do the occasional freelance gig creating logos and whatnot, these days most of my artistic endeavors include sewing, knitting and paper craft, or whatever else strikes my fancy. I also create under the Zen Emporium brand and hope to have an online shop for you to check out some of those goodies up and running soon.

What my yoga asana practice teaches me seems so applicable to the hopes I have for this blog. Asana has helped reinforce that life is about the journey not the destination; on the mat, as in life, there is always something more — to learn, to try, to tweak, to experience, to adjust. And here, if you’re interested, you can join me as I continue to explore and learn.
